Stops to photograph the scenery, the presence of other walkers and the condition of the terrain may mean the walk takes longer than three hours.<\/p>\n<h4>What is the route like?<\/h4>\n<p>The route begins in the vicinity of Raba\u00e7al, on the Paul da Serra plateau. From there, the route descends towards the Casa do Raba\u00e7al, a landmark for several trails in the area.<br \/>\nOnce you reach the levada, the route winds through dense vegetation, past small waterfalls and some narrow passages. It does not require mountaineering skills nor is it excessively long, but it should not be considered a simple stroll either.<\/p>\n<p>Damp conditions can make stones, steps and roots slippery. Furthermore, there are narrow sections close to the levada and areas where crowds of visitors make it difficult to pass. In 2026, the individual fee for visitors aged 12 and over is 4.50 euros. Children aged 12 and under are exempt from payment, although they must also be included in the booking.<\/p>\n<p>These conditions are subject to change. Before setting off, it is essential to check both the condition of the trail and any possible restrictions on the official <a href=\"https:\/\/ifcn.madeira.gov.pt\/pt\/atividades-de-natureza\/percursos-pedestres-recomendados?format=html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website of the IFCN of Madeira<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Tips for enjoying the 25 Fontes<\/h4>\n<p>As this is one of Madeira\u2019s most popular trails, it is common to encounter large numbers of visitors. Booking one of the earliest time slots of the day can allow you to walk more peacefully and enjoy the surroundings to the full.<\/p>\n<p>It is advisable to maintain a steady pace, give way when necessary and avoid stopping in the narrowest sections. At the final lagoon, please respect others\u2019 space, stay within the designated areas and do not damage the vegetation whilst taking photographs.<\/p>\n<p>It is also important to remember that an open route may become impassable due to heavy rain, landslides, fires or maintenance work. You should check the official status on the day itself or shortly before setting off.<\/p>\n<h4>Levada das 25 Fontes and Risco Waterfall: are they the same route?<\/h4>\n<p>No. Although they share the Raba\u00e7al area and part of the access route, they are two different trails.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>PR 6 \u2013 Levada das 25 Fontes<\/strong> leads to the lagoon fed by the springs. The <strong>PR 6.1 \u2013 Levada do Risco<\/strong> leads to a viewpoint facing a long vertical waterfall. It is possible to combine both routes if you have enough time, have made the necessary bookings and the terrain conditions are favourable.<\/p>\n<h4>One of Madeira\u2019s greenest sights<\/h4>\n<p>The Levada das 25 Fontes brings together many of the elements that have made Madeira a prime destination for hiking: water, woodland, volcanic terrain and a network of paths unlike any found elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>It is a much-photographed route, but no photograph can replace the experience of hearing the water flowing alongside the path, feeling the dampness of the woodland and walking between walls completely covered in vegetation.<\/p>\n<p>With careful planning, suitable footwear and respect for the rules of the natural area, the PR 6 allows you to discover one of Madeira\u2019s most unique landscapes.
